What to expect on an EF tour as an adult traveler

Traveling with a group

You'll explore with other adults and students from your community—and sometimes from across the U.S., as we often combine groups—so remember that group travel requires some flexibility. Our quick tips? Be punctual and keep a positive attitude, and students will follow your lead.

Background checks

Safety is always our top priority. All travelers aged 20 and older are required to complete a background check, and will receive an email with specific instructions a few months before departure.

Scheduled activities

All travelers, regardless of age, are expected to follow the group’s itinerary and participate in every scheduled activity. There are often pockets of free time throughout tour where you can do some independent exploring.

Comfortable sneakers

There’s so much to learn, explore, and discover, so most days are fast-paced with lots of walking. Plan on being on-the-go all day, leaving your hotel after an early breakfast and returning after dinner.

Included meals

Group meals will feature a mix of local specialties and familiar dishes that appeal to student travelers’ tastes. If you’d like to expand your palate, we recommend making culinary discoveries on your own during free time.

Following the leaders

Think of the teacher who planned your EF tour and your Tour Director as your go-to experts. If you or any students have any questions or concerns, lean on them for support and answers first.

Hotels & rooming

  • Stay in safe, clean, and comfortable hotels that meet EF’s rigorous standards

  • Request a roommate or we’ll pair you with another adult based on the sex identified on your passport

  • Each room will have two single beds and a private bathroom

  • You can request to upgrade to a single room for an additional fee
